A Dream Rooted
in Haitian Soil
The story of one woman, one island, and a cup of coffee
that carries the soul of an entire nation.
Some dreams don't start with a plan.
They start with a feeling.
My name is Jose Neissa CLEUS. I was born in Haiti — an island that the world often sees through the lens of struggle, but that I have always known through the lens of beauty, strength, and richness.
Growing up, the smell of freshly roasted Haitian coffee was the smell of home. It was the first thing in the morning, the warmth shared between neighbors, the unspoken pride of a people who gave the world some of its finest beans — long before anyone else did.
When I moved to the United States, I carried that memory with me. And one day, I asked myself a simple question: why isn't Haitian coffee everywhere?
"Haiti was once one of the world's leading coffee producers. I didn't want that legacy to be forgotten. I wanted to bring it back — one cup at a time."
— Jose Neissa CLEUS, Founder & CEOBuilding something real,
from nothing.
Starting Black Gold of Haiti wasn't easy. There was no roadmap, no investor waiting with a check, no guarantee of success. There was only a vision — and the stubborn belief that Haitian coffee deserved a place at the premium table.
I did everything myself. The research, the sourcing, the branding, the packaging, the website. Every decision was made with one purpose in mind: to honor Haiti, and to deliver something truly exceptional to every person who opens a bag.

Haiti didn't just grow coffee.
Haiti defined it.
In the 18th century, Haiti supplied more than half of the world's coffee. The mountains of Thiotte, Kenscoff, and Les Cayes produced beans of extraordinary depth — bold, smooth, naturally low in acidity, with notes of dark chocolate and roasted almond.
That tradition never disappeared. It just needed someone to carry it forward. That is what Black Gold of Haiti is — a bridge between a glorious past and a deserving future.
Honoring centuries of Haitian coffee tradition in every single bag we sell.
100% Haitian Arabica beans. No shortcuts. No compromise. Real coffee from real farmers.
